Photo Upload Terms and Privacy Notice
Using photos in ShopBack features
These terms apply whenever you upload a photo in ShopBack for our platform’s features.
What you can upload
- Only upload photos you’re allowed to share (for example, photos you took yourself).
- Do not upload photos of other people unless you have their permission.
- Upload photos relevant to the feature you are using (for example, items you wish to purchase).
What you must not upload
Please do not upload photos that are:
- Illegal (for example, content that breaks local laws).
- Harmful, hateful, harassing, or violent.
- Sexually explicit, pornographic, or exploitative.
- Infringing someone else’s rights (for example, copyright or privacy).
If we believe photos break these rules or our Terms of Use, we may review or remove related content and restrict your access to certain features.
Who owns your photos
You keep ownership of your photos. By uploading a photo, you give ShopBack permission (a licence) to use and process it only to:
- Provide and operate the feature you’re using
- Improve that feature and related services, as described here and in our Privacy Policy
How we process your photos
We use your photos to power the specific feature you’ve chosen.
- AI and other automated tools may analyse your photos to generate results.
- We do not use your photos for face recognition or to identify who you are.

Shop by Image
What it does
You upload a photo of a product, and we try to find similar items and show prices and available cashback.
What we use
- The photo you upload
- Basic device and app information (for example, version, language, country)
- Your interactions with results (views, clicks, purchases)
How we use and store it
AI may analyse your photo to detect products and match them to our catalogue and partner sites. This helps us show product matches, prices, cashback, and improve recommendations.
Photos may be stored for a short period to help improve and troubleshoot this feature, then deleted or anonymised.
This feature is optional and you can stop using it at any time.
Shopping Assistant
What it does
You upload a photo of a product during your chat with the Shopping Assistant, and we try to find similar items and show prices and cashback from ShopBack partners.
What we use
- The photo you upload
- Basic device and app information (for example, version, language, country)
- Your interactions with results (views, clicks, purchases)
- Chat information with the Shopping Assistant
How we use and store it
AI may analyse your photo to detect products and match them to our catalogue and partner sites. This helps improve search and recommendations.
Photos may be stored for a short period to improve and troubleshoot this feature, then deleted or anonymised.
This feature is optional and you can stop using it at any time.
Meal Snap
What it does
You upload a photo of your meal, and we estimate what you’re eating and how healthy it is according to the Singapore Health Promotion Board Healthier Dining Program Nutrition Guidelines, so we can give you possible rewards (for example, “healthy streaks”).
What we use
- Photos of your meals
- Time and basic context (for example, breakfast, lunch, dinner if you choose to label it)
- Inferred details about the food (for example, type of meal, approximate nutritional information, healthy eating categories)
- Your ShopBack account and reward history for this feature
How we use and store it
AI may analyse your meal photo to estimate what’s on your plate and classify it against the Singapore Health Promotion Board Healthier Dining Program guidelines. This is used to track streaks and grant rewards.
Meal photos and related insights may be stored for a short period so you can view your history and rewards, and to improve and troubleshoot this feature, then deleted or anonymised.
Meal Snap is optional and not medical advice. It is a wellness and insights tool only. You can stop using it at any time.
Skincare Advisor
What it does
You upload a face photo, and we analyse visible skin features (for example, acne or pores) to suggest beauty products and routines.
What we use
- Your face photo
- Inferred skin information (for example, skin type and visible concerns)
- Your ShopBack account and interactions with recommended products
How we use and store it
AI may analyse your face photo to detect general skin characteristics and match them with beauty products. This is used only to power skincare recommendations in ShopBack.
Your photo is immediately deleted after analysis and is not stored.
Skincare Advisor is optional and not medical advice. It is for cosmetic guidance only. You can stop using this feature at any time.
Other AI photo features (now or in future)
From time to time, we may launch new photo-based features. Any new feature that uses your photos or AI analysis will be clearly labelled.
If a feature may reveal sensitive information, we will ask for your explicit agreement before use.
You can always choose not to use optional features.
